I am confident that I am in good hands at SD LGBT Pride, especially since my brother enjoyed interning here, but I'm still quite nervous. I've held a job, volunteered, and interned before, and yet I still worry that I will be embarrassingly inexperienced. Of course, the entire purpose of this month is to learn and grow, but I know growing requires mistakes that I'd rather not make. However, what I've seen of the work ethic at Pride suggests that my coworkers will be kind and understanding. I feel that the office is a safe space for learning, which is all I could possibly hope for at an internship site. I will have two mentors, Natasha Anderson and Alex Villafuerte, who will introduce me to as many departments of the office as possible, since I couldn't decide exactly what I wanted to do. The intern coordinator, Jen LaBarbera, said she would try to get me some time at the Center (it was my first choice for an internship site), but it may be difficult as the Center doesn't allow volunteers under the age of 18. Once I have an idea the departments I prefer working in, I can start planning my project. I know this is going to be an amazing externship.
